We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.
Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines. In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals. Everywhere except New Hampshire.
Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.
The current proposal is penny-wise but pound-foolish. Our natural heritage is priceless - bury the transmission lines!

Burying the lines will keep job opportunities available and satisfy those who are opposed to cutting trees and seeing towers.

If you erect these towers you will destroy one of the major reasons I visit and spend money in the state of New Hampshire at minimum20 times every year. I'll take my travel dollars to Western MA or NY state or VT or....

It will literally be in my backyard. I would move but won't be able to sell the house that I built (with my brothers) and planned on living in forever.
The investors are guarantied a very healthy ROI. Bury it and reduce their ROI to just plain healthy.

In this day and age it should be a no brainer to require that power lines be buried as a condition of installation in such a scenic and unspoiled region.

There is zero benefit to NH, I want to continue to enjoy the reasons I moved to this state, Northern pass will damage that forever.
Ogden Ogden Rossabout 11 years ago Arlington MA
Visual pollution will destroy the tourist industry and the views. The power will not go to NH but onto the grid which means it feeds into the Eastern Corridor, primarily to I 95, Boston to NYC and Philadelphia/Washington DC.

New Hampshire has some of the most beautiful areas in the country. They should be preserved and defended. Please do not allow Northern Pass to desecrate New Hampshire

Our scenery is irreplaceable. We should not have to sacrifice for the energy consumption elsewhere.

New England wild life and wild places are important to maintain not only for the recreational opportunities they provide for avid hikers and snowshoers like myself, but also for the diverse species which they support.

The pristine forests and mountains of new Hampshire are a national treasure. If we do not protect them, who will? These lines can and should be buried. Shame on us if we destroy our lands in this way.
Peter Berghabout 11 years ago New Castle NH
Power brought thru this project doesn't serve NH and isn't needed. Line should be buried. And the proposed route tramples miles of views and fragile areas--areas vital to north country tourism;.

I cringe eveytime I look at those ugly DC transmission lines near Warren and the scar it has on the landscape. Gov. Hassan, I do not want to see another scar on our state's most precious resource...please do what you can to STOP the towers!

Having been born and lived in New Hampshire all my life. I'm not interested in Northern Pass or Turbine/Wind Mill ruining this great states beauty and bringing carcinogens to the people and wildlife of NH.
