Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

I have vacationed in the very special White Mts. every Summer of my life, there aren't enough protected natural places left on the Earth & we need to protect what is left.

Natural beauty and resources are just too precious to lose.

I make frequent trips from Maine to hike the White Mountains. This area really is the centerpiece of New England and I have to assume it's also a strong economic engine for the state of N. H. Why would you want to despoil this majestic wilderness?

I care about the beauty and health (physical, environmental, and economic) of my state and her people.

Wild and beautiful, undisturbed areas and expanses of land are important to people and wildlife

We need to preserve the beauty and ecology of our natural resources. There are wiser alternatives for the Northern Pass
  • Poppy Poppy Arfordabout 12 years ago Brunswick NH
It is immoral on a spiiritual level, to change the natural landscape, to change the way generations to come see the natural world, or more accurately do not see it. The benefit derived does not suoport the priceless benefit lost.

Please don't let this happen. Once done it can never be undone. It is not necessary.

I grew up in Clarksville New Hampshire and I spend many hours taking photos of the beauty in the North Country. We need work in the North Country and these lines will destroy our tourist industry. Please help us Governor.

Because it's crazy to ruin our state for Canada and PSNH's benefit. If they want it, let them BURY IT.
  • Rebecca Oreskesabout 12 years ago Milan NH
NH relies on its scenic beauty for tourism and our quality of life. If NP is deemed to be worth doing than we know the line can be buried, allowing power to be transmitted without harming what makes NH so special.

I live in one of the most beautiful parts of NH. Please don't let the Northern Pass spoil it!
  • Matthew Careyabout 12 years ago Cambridge MA
Above ground powerlines are outdated and a remnant of turn of the century industrialization. Shorty term cost efficiency cannot trample the best solution for society. BURY THEM
  • Jennifer Holmesabout 12 years ago Stoughton MA
I grew up visiting these areas as a child. Its bad enough future generations won't "meet" the old man of the mountain. PLEASE bury these power lines so our children's children can appreciate the unspoiled gift of these precious areas!
  • Stephen Connollyabout 12 years ago West Newbury VT
Please think about how important these mountain views are to the general public. I regularly use your mountains to find a piece of solitude. Don't take this away from my generation or the next!!!
  • Kevin Kavanaughabout 12 years ago Ewing NJ
We need open space for all to enjoy without unsightly power lines!!!! The power companies would be better served by building renewable energy projects closer to where the need is. Conservation would easily save power!

Why let big companies destroy the state we all know why because they run the country. There must be another way let's find it.......

My house is in the area effected. and it will hurt the state and tourism
  • Margaret Randabout 12 years ago Tilton NH
Bury the lines if we need this, it will be better for the scenic integrity of the state. Tourists are not going to bring money into the state to see power lines that can be seen in so many other places. Protect the mountains and forests.
