Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

The preservation of wild areas is vital to our state for reasons of survival for wildlife as well as ourselves. Without their natural beauty and spirit lifting vistas who would want to spend time in our magnificent state?

I drive many hours to the White Mountains, for one reason-to hike and enjoy the amazing vistas and natural beauty. Things that mar this make it less likely that I will continue to drive all that way (and spend money there) throughout my life.

The WMs are an escape from the stresses of modern life and reminders of such, like power lines. Why have above ground power lines if they can be buried? I lived in NY for Sandy...underground lines would avoid costly and lengthy repairs after every storm!

If larger transmission lines are allowed; then how long befor additional roads, services, and and maintainence buildings erected. I see this upgrade as an encroachment in our wilderness areas.

This natural area is unique in the East. It is fragile, ecologically and economically. The unspoiled view and unfragmented forest is a major part of this area's value. Can't we act with foresight for once? Please stand your ground and say no.
