Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

This project is going to be a huge detriment to one of the greatest resources that the North Country depend upon (tourism). This is an irresponsible plan. Reject this project as currently proposed! Bury it!

Please stop the Northern Pass it is a bad idea for so many environmental reasons. We have to save something of nature for future generations. If that cannot happen - bury the darn thing.
  • Katherine Hansonabout 12 years ago Deerfield NH
It's time to say enough. We have enough energy now. We can live with what we have. Constant expansion of the energy grid isn't an option.
  • Frank Mitchellabout 12 years ago Deerfield NH
I favor local control of our energy future as opposed to foreign corporate control. Above ground lines are unnecessary.

Growing up in the north country of New Hampshire taught me how to appreciate our beautiful state. It's important that we save our forests. There are much better ways to deliver power that don't include towering eye-sores. Stop or Bury Northern Pass!

NU should put their money where their mouth is and bury the lines. Recoup the investment over a slightly longer term rather than defile our state for their shortsighted gains and our lifetime loss.

Being a flatlander, I surely love all the fishing trips I have made to the Connecticut Lakes. Why ruin it for future generations?

I am definitely against the Northern Pass project because it would spoil the natural beauty of Scenic New Hampshire. I live in Deerfield, NH and have a camp in Clarksville, NH. Both would be negatively impacted by the power lines.
  • Barbara Sheaabout 12 years ago Seabrook NH
First of all, I do not believe that a foreign should be controlling energy resources in the U.S. Power lines ruin our enjoyment of viewing our scenery.

The negative impact to the States Tourism income and property values would be devastating. Think New Jersey Turnpike!

The current burial plan puts it in the roadbed a few feet above my well housing and between my water supply and my well. A private foreign non-green company must be stopped from destroying what's left of northern NH economy.

This is my home - it would ruin and sadden me to come back and see this horrible abomination suffocating the beautiful mountains/views of my home.

I live on the Maine NH border in the north country, to many of these projects mar the landscape. I think the power line should be buried to protect our views.

I sell Real Estate for a living. Towers affect my job and my personal pride in my town and state. Keep NH scenic.
