Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

We have family home in North Woodstock and don't want to have to look out at power lines in viewing the mountains.

Over-head electrical transmission lines are very unattractive. Let's keep the countryside rustic and wild. Please, no ugly transmission lines.

I love open space and, clear views.

Because I go to New Hampshire because it is less spoiled than MA and far too many lovely towns will be impacted by the Pass.
  • Leslie Archer Kasselabout 12 years ago Latham NY
I hiked the White Mountians last summer and it was life changing. Power lines through those mountains would change everything. Keep it pristine forever.

We are running out of untouched natural spaces. It is extremely important to save these beautiful landscapes and tell the greed mongers our land is not for sale.

Will ruin the views in some of our favorite NH places, where we have vacationed for year, and its much worse for those who live there year-round.

Don't let big business ruin the beauty of our state by running these over head power lines through the National Forest or anywhere else.
  • Janice Scoppettuoloabout 12 years ago Pembroke MA
We need to preserve the beauty of unspoiled mountains and forests. It is so important for our generation and those to come. Humans who visit and the wildlife who live there need this to thrive.
  • Irene Hayesabout 12 years ago Gardner MA
I spend a lot of time in New Hampshire because of the beauty. To desecrate that natural beauty with the above ground high tension lines would be a crime. Please work towards the underground option. I would hate to find a new place to spend my tmoney.

I graduated from UNH where I was a member of ute Outing Club. I am also a 30 year member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and I hate to think of New Hampshire's scenery being destroyed by power lines!
  • Laurie Strickerabout 12 years ago West Caldwell NJ
Natures Beauty and willdness needs to be preserved. And there is another choice. Burying the lines is such a better option.
  • Nick Lefrancoisabout 12 years ago Lakeland FL
My love for the mountains. I intend on retiring there and want them preserved.
  • Susan Mcclainabout 12 years ago Rehoboth MA
We seem to care so little about preserving our natural resources and they are all that we have to sustain us. This isn't just about recreation this is about LIFE itself.
  • Daniel Morrisseyabout 12 years ago New Milford CT
we should leave some of our wild places unscared to retain visual beauty in those few places that are left.
