Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

I'd like to hear about the alternatives – e.g., burying the lines – to the Northern Pass idea as it's currently been proposed. We should at least consider burying or diverting any portion of the lines that traverse state or national parks.

Please do not allow this project, it would ruin the state's scenic beauty and economic tourist engine!

We have lived in New Hampshire for over 35 years and I continue to be grateful to reside in such a beautiful state. Northern Pass should bury the lines to help maintain our states natural beauty.

Who would be so irresponsible to condone the "raping" of New Hampshires' White Mountains?

Many years of memories throughout the lakes region and up through the North woods. I want the beauty to remain for my grandkids some day and great grandkids after that.

This will only hurt NH. If this is to go through, bury these ugly and dangerous lines that only scar the landscape that people come here to see.

I love the white mountains. I can't imagine what this would do to this beautiful place.

You cannot trade God-inspiring natural beauty for temporary jobs promised from big out-of- state and irresponsible corporations who will only take the money and run and leave us with an eye-sore. Let's not sell our Souls!

Just the talk of this project has destroyed our property values. Real estate agents are refusing to list houses along the proposes route from fear of being sued if it is built. Need power in Massachusetts, build Cape Wind first then let's see.

Because we can, doesn't mean we should. We all too often don't truly understand what the impact our actions have on the environment.

    - We want to preserve the beauty of this state - As I see it, the state of NH are not the beneficiaries of this energy -Hydro Quebec is not that efficient, look at their record to their own province

I want my children to be able to enjoy the beauty and untouched nature of nh. Part of the charm and allure of Nh is it's age old trees and mountains and rivers and lakes. Weare privelaged to live here. Besides it's not even really ours to give away.

Protect these landscapes that are so beautiful and offer so much, making many visitors return time and again, who my be discouraged by such a project. Stop the obliteration of wilderness and natural beauty

We as a state are well supplied with energy. This is primarily for the Big States like NYC etc. Why does this ugly proposition have to be at the expense of our beautiful state???? Time to bury the lines of use the Vermont lines already in place!!

Protect the majestic and historic White Mountains. NH is already a net exporter of electricity to the New England power grid and needs to STOP being the stomping grounds for all of the new energy projects in the region. STOP Northern Pass

This is important to me because the white mountains are my most favorite place in the country to hike. I have grown up here hiking and it would be unpleasant to have to see large steel towers and taking away from natures beauty.
