Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

I love to hike and do not want to look out at steel towers. Why can they not bury the Northern Pass.

Madame Governor, for the sake of the health of its citizens, our environment and the economy of our state of NH, please reject Northern Pass unless ALL lines are buried. Thank you.

My parents first took me to the White Mountains in 1967. That was the beginning of our love affair with that beautiful place. Please stop this travesty of Northern Pass and preserve the incredible and pristine beauty of New Hampshire forever.

It would ruin the scenic beauty of the region.

We're putting this line through our beautiful NH landscape?? Who needs this electricity anyway?? I'm understanding that it supplying NH with jobs is pretty much a farce also!! So who's benefiting here??

bury it or don't build it.

Our last hope for economic survival in Coos county is the lure of the natural beauty of the area to vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts.

There is precious little undisturbed natural land left. I have seen Southern California destroyed by development progress that can't be sustained. Please do not let New Hampshire be spoiled by power lines. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. James Buss

We have an opportunity now to make an intelligent decision. One that will affect all who live in and/or love the wild places in NH. Let's preserve our beautiful natural resources and ensure that our state remains and destination location. No Northern Pass!

This would disrupt the lives of the animals, birds, even the bugs that live along the line they are proposing. I don't want to see the line go through whether it is above the ground or below the ground. Please stop the Northern Pass.

Burry the lines. What would the alternatives be if the power lines needed to run across your front lawn? Alternatives would be found...

The White Mountains provide vital and scarce wilderness opportunities in the densely populated Northeast, and the protected areas should remain protected for future generations.

  • Graham Sorensonabout 11 years ago East Calais VT
The White Mountains are a special part of New England because of their beauty and wildness, and it is important that they remain that way for us now and in the future, and for the biodiversity that they hold.
