Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.  

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

    I grew up in the White Mountains and the negative impact on the water system and forest would tragic. Do we want the next generation to have to deal with it? A better investment would surely be alternative energy projects.

    The project is a disaster to tourism and the local community! If PSNH we're not so broke, they would bury the lines as is being done in Maine. Put a stop to this now.

    Lines near my house are clear-cut for about 75 yards and can be seen for miles.I want to see the wild areas look wild into the future without a DMZ cut through the middle of it. Traffic, helicopters, mowing and herbicides are just not good the wild areas.

    I love NH; the mountains, trees, wildlife and waterways. It would be devastating to see the huge ugly towers in any portion of our landscape. I can not find any advantage for this plan. Please do not destroy New Hampshire.

    I have lived in New Hampshire, and still have family living in Hollis. Overhead transmission lines will be a blight and ruin the natural beauty of NH forever. Underground lines are the way to go.
