Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

My family has taken hikes in the White Mtns. for decades with kids, grandkids and friends. We want the views untrammeled.

We should be burying all lines anyway!

We travel from other states to use these forests for recreation, which offers some boost to local economies.

Please preserve this beautiful, unspoiled land. What a terrible thing to do to such special land.

The AMT is truly an escape that is perfect for our two daughters aged 5 & 7. They are able to escape the hustle and bustle. Please don't let them destroy the beauty of our country that the next generations may not get a chance to enjoy.

Don't sacrifice the beauty of NH to ensure profits for utility companies.

I love the North Country just the way it is and don't want to see it ruined. It's a beautiful place and we should keep it that way.

I hike for the beauty and tranquility of the mountains and forests and to enjoy nature. I think we all need the respite we get from being able to get away and refresh our total beings.

I've moved, but I enjoyed many happy years in the beautiful area of Cannon Mt. and it distresses me to think of it being needlessly spoiled. Please don't let that happen.

As a vacationer in New Hampshire, I am dismayed at this possibility. We can be smarter about what we do with energy - bury or re-route the transmission line!

The White Mountain National Forest is a national treasure. People who experience this area can't help but become aware of the reasons why we should do everything in our power to preserve the natural splendor of this place. Please do not scar it.

We will not benefit from this and it will permanently scar our land. The Northern Pass puts their propaganda on the television - they have lied to us all from the start.

I hike in NH every year. Keep it as pristine as possible! There isn't enough wild/open space in the Northeast.

It is important to leave a legacy of natural wilderness.

Bury the power lines while cutting down as few trees as possible. Please.
  • Owen Knightabout 11 years ago Malden MA
We only have so much land and then no more. If we allow wilderness to disappear, we will never get it back along with the wildlife living there.

I visit NH often for family. its beautiful and would be awful to have the views ruined because of power lines. I live next to lines that are no longer used and they are still there. once they go up they never come down. Have them buried !!!!!

I am an avid hiker in the NH Mountains and seeing the windmills all over the ridges near Plymouth gives me a sinking feeling about transmission towers/lines ripping through the scenic area of NH.

Tourism brings revenue to the State. The scares from Northern Pass will reduce tourists and revenue. Bury the lines!!!
