Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Power lines must be buried or stop project!

I don't feel we need more energy especially from another country! What we need is more energy independance!

My family loves the WMNF and we hike on a regular basis. This would be a destructive initiative and would remove the beauty of the woods. Please don't let this happen for my children's sake and for the sake of our future generations.

The outdoors is what NH is known for, what we love, and what we take pride in. Big business has no right to scar this area simply to line pockets. Some things are still sacred.

An open vista from a ridge or mountaintop in the Whites is a treasure we need to preserve.
  • sara hartabout 12 years ago chatham NY
because the iconic white mountains are where i go to escape several times every year. it is a treasure i don't want to see fragmented and denigrated by any human infrastructure any more!
  • Weldon Bosworthabout 12 years ago Gilford NH
Let's not desecrate NH's beautiful vistas when there are better alternatives. It is a short term decision.

I moved to NH 36 years ago from Oregon because of its beauty. My dogs and I have hiked all the 4000 footers and continue to enjoy all the natural splendor. Please keep it that way.

As an avid camper and backpacker, I do not want to see some of New Hampshire's most beautiful wilderness marred by power lines that could be put underground.

burying is optimal and the technology is there. Tucker video is intense and says it all!

I don't want to see massive power lines while I'm hiking in these mountains.

I hike, climb and ski in the White Mountains all year long and enjoy the beautiful scenery every time. The towers will ruin that for me and all others who do the same as I do.

I moved to NH from Mass 14 years ago to escape the mindless development and lack of protection of Natural Resources. Please don't let an outside corporation forever ruin the scenic beauty of our state. There are alternatives!!

Desecrating our woods and throwing off the balance of nature should be severely punished and is as wrong as desecrating our flag if not worse!
  • Rebecca Backmanabout 12 years ago Andover MA
We know that the intensity of storms is increasing. Protecting access to power is essential. Burying power lines is part of the solution and is forward thinking. It's also esthetically essential. Please require the transmission line to be buried.
  • Jeremy Clarkabout 12 years ago Wernersville PA
True wilderness is all too uncommon these days. I've spent vacation hiking in these woods. We're lines to go up I would not have the desire to spend time in NH. Please move forward responsibly and bury the lines.

Once destroyed it doesn't come back. Nature is a way of life for so many. It is a deep rooted and vibrant way of life and must be saved. Do something. Fight this!

Our natural resources are a wonderfully calming remedy for the many stressful and harmful distractions that are thrown at us, especially our youth, please don't destroy them.

We've gone solar here in MA. It's a better option than Northern Pass.

It is our responsibility to take care of the planet for future generations. This scar on our state would be a significant abrogation of our responsibility.
  • Erik Keenanabout 12 years ago Raymond NH
Coos County imparticular is like no where else in the state and putting a transmission line through there were not only ruin that pristiness, but piss a lot of people off. All because other energy markets are calling for it, go ruin their state, not ours!
  • J Ambroseabout 12 years ago glen NH
Please keep NH beautiful. I think in our hearts we all know this is wrong. In the long run the state will lose if the northern pass is allowed. Please act with compassion. Thank you
