Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

The natural beauty of the land will be spoiled for our children and grandchildren. This land should be held in it's creation, as is, for future generations.

we should not be the "extension cord" for Connecticut or other states to benefit. This does not help NH, only hurt it and it would not create permanent jobs. This would only destroy the beautiful landscape of New Hampshire.

a few should not ruin the NH State beauty and property

Northern NH, all of NH, is very beautiful. Towers and their right of way are a HORRIBLE blight on the landscape. Electric lines do not need to be that. Bury the lines, but NO TOWERS.

I own property in ME not to far from the NH border,I think it would be very unsightly and a better solution could be found.

Hastening the urbanization of New Hampshire's vistas is not in anybody's (or almost anybody's) interest.

The White Mountains are one of the few large unspoiled natural areas in the northeastern United States--a place to introduce our children to the wonders and beauty of nature. Please make protecting this area part of your proud legacy as a political leader.

While there is an every increasing need for electricity I think it can be delivered by burying the lines and not ruining the visual landscape.

As a NH born person away on work, I still return to NH and love NH and the natural spaces. I hike the Whites and love the unspoiled vistas.

One of NH's great assets is its natural environment. Residents and visitors enjoy the beauty of its unspoiled landscape. Northern Pass will destroy much that NH values and will offer little to nothing in return. I urge you to stop Northern Pass.

This land is non-renewable, for energy delivery that will be obsolete in a few decades. Unknown cost associated with digging lines under, also shortsighted. Large corporations should not be allowed to ruin our national treasures.Period.

Bury the towers under interstate 93.

I would like to see the lines buried. Why not preserve the beauty of our land? Also, it is this beauty that brings lots of revenue in tourism into the state every year.

Our wilderness lands will suffer if these towers are built. These lands have been protected for many years for a reason.

The beauty of the North East is worth preserving.Technology is available to bury these lines underground. It can be done and it most be done. Why not follow the same path that Maine and Vermont is taking?

There is plenty of clean alternative sustainable options that these mogul energy companies can afford and implement vs.pinching pennies to the dollar and using these prehistoric wasteful, inefficient, industrial, and pathetic methods.
