Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

The pristine North Country is NH's special asset and also the mainstay of the fragile North Country economy.

I am a hiker; much of the pleasure comes from unobstructed vistas. We need a comprehensive policy for energy production and distribution, one that has only a minimal impact on our environment; we should not be working piecemeal.

The northern pass would detract from our beautiful north! We in NH pride ourselves on our ability to go back to nature with a short drive north. Please don't under-value the property by installing ugly towers with high EMF.

WHY DECIMATE OUR SO MANY TREES AND PUT UP UGLY TOWERS, BURY THE POWER LINES ALONG EXISTING CORRIDORS. PROTECT NEW HAMPSHIRE'S BEAUTY
  • Tina Gravesabout 12 years ago Wilton NH
NH is beautiful the way it is and must be preserved for future generations. No Northern Pass or at a minimum, bury the lines. Please remember, if built we can not undo what is done.

I have lived in this State for over 80 years and have enjoyed its beauty and natural resourses and am absolutely opposed to things that mar its beauty. Dick Campbell (and I vote Independent whose votes you Dems are loosing daily)

I come to NH to hike almost every year for many years. I've met people from all over the world here. Power lines also disrupt wild life. Sierra Club recently wrote about .this research. I hope you can find alternatives to transmission towers.

Growing up in NH and my family still living up there, the trees are what makes NH so stunning. The only thing that should take our breath away is the foliage, not less trees.

We visit often and have spent many happy hours in the NH wilderness (I am a member of the 4000 footer club). It would be devastating to have more power lines above ground than there already are. I strongly urge you to save the beauty that is NH.

The visual damage to our beautiful State should not be compromised by a poor project that could be improved by going underground

Some of our nation's most magnificent lands must not be degraded! Make the lines DC and bury them like the planned Quebec-NY project.

No guarantee money will come to NH. Friends will look out onto towers & a Canadian company will get the benefits. NY & Conn.get more power; why scar NH and take the beauty, a strength, away from the people and visitors that love it??

I regularly vacation -everything from inns to camping) in New Hampshire for the unspoiled beauty. Please bury the lines - if they must go through. Eco-tourism can be forever, cost to bury lines is once.

Protecting the scenic beauty of New Hampshire's heritage. The creator endowed NH with spectacular beauty; it's up to us to treat it with care and respect.

If Northern Pass does not agree to bury power lines, it should be stopped. Keep this beautiful state beautiful for those of us who enjoy hiking in these mountains and for generations to come.

That ANYONE may enable electrical tower installation through NH's environmentally sensitive/scenic mountains is disturbing and heartbreaking, especially given such is destructive and entirely unnecessary. Please DO NOT approve the Northern Pass proposal.

This commercial enterprise provides no infrastructure electricity, or other benefits to NH residents or businesses, and degrades one of our primary attractions, the physical beauty of our surroundings.
