Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

I love the beauty of the White Mountains.I don't want to see a swath cut through them.

I don't want to see any more of our environment butchered and nor do I want to see the lines and towers running through our state.
  • Kathleen Norrisabout 11 years ago Plymouth NH
There is no true benefit to NH in this project, and it would scar magnificent landscapes, devalue homes and other properties, as even the thought of this has done already.
  • Patricia Bahrabout 11 years ago Campton NH
Economical, environmental and health impacts. No need for NH. Corporate greed. Outdated technology. Dependence on foreign country for power.
  • Jessica Hollandabout 11 years ago Nashua NH
Lifelong NH resident/avid White Mountains hiker. I support the preservation of NH's beauty and reject trading our precious resources away so MA, CT, and NY can have more power. Money can't buy back our mountains and nature once they have been destroyed.

When we looked to purchase land and where to move in the future we chose Northern NH. We chose it for the beauty and tranquility not for the unsightly towers that are being proposed.

I live in a town of beauty and you want o ruin it with huge towers? How about cities and folks down south shut lights of at night! Why ruin a place were kids of the future should see, not always uglies because we always want more and need more.

My family owns and operates a lodging business in Errol, NH. The residents of the North Country's livelihood depends on the preservation of the natural beauty of NH.

Huge detrimental impact on the north country benefits only one company. The jobs will not be new and won't last.
  • Tina Birdsallabout 11 years ago laconia NH
Our natural resources are too important to our way of life to let Northern Pass continue on their proposed path through the White Mountain National Forest. If they can't bury it, they should forget about it. Thank you for your support Governor Hassan.

I am writing to URGE you to stand firm and support the burial of the lines as an ONLY option to the Northern Pass. I am a strong opponent of Northern Pass in its current form. The project would permanently scar our Northern landscape.
  • Thomas Lapierreabout 11 years ago Colebrook NH
I own property that would be negatively impacted, visually by this proposal. It would then lower my property value. I have spent thousands of dollars, and time fostering this valuable view, and property.

Take a ride on Canada's route 10 from Magog to Montreal and see what ugliness happens when big electricity business stomps on rural scenery without regard for the consequences. Is the general population in NH powerless?
  • Todd Kramerabout 11 years ago Bedford NH
I believe the undeveloped north country is New Hampshire's greatest resource. Please do not hack it up with powerlines that will not serve the states best interests.

I don't want this to wreck the beauty of our state and it will pass through my backyard.tell me gov you want it in yours?

Keep the north country the way it is!!
  • Daniel LeBlancabout 11 years ago New Hampton NH
PSNH simply wants a profit. we can not sell out our most precious resource simply for their benefit. All of NH north of concord depends on the beauty of our state for its income, either directly or indirectly. Do not jeopardize that heritage!
