Bury or Stop Northern Pass

Dear Governor Hassan,

We applaud your efforts to date to defend New Hampshire's natural and cultural heritage from the proposed Northern Pass transmission line. Please join us in making sure that our children and grandchildren can pass this vital heritage on to their children and grandchildren. Please ask Northeast Utilities and Hydro-Québec either to bury the entire project in New Hampshire or stop it altogether.

Everywhere we look we see proposals for new high-voltage, direct current transmission lines.  In Maine, Vermont, and New York, new north-south high-voltage direct-current lines are being proposed completely underground or underwater; even Hydro-Québec itself is advancing an underground transmission project to connect with New York. Everywhere we look we see new, innovative underground transmission technology proposals.  Everywhere except New Hampshire.

Governor Hassan, before you host the New England Governors and the Eastern Canadian Premiers here in New Hampshire this July, please make it clear that New Hampshire welcomes each of them to our magnificent state. But please also convey the message that we will insist on smart, well-planned energy projects that advance a clean energy future and we will not welcome any overhead extension cords like Northern Pass that provide little benefit to the state, at the expense of our natural and scenic resources.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Maybe this will confirm our heritage of caring for the forests is what is right, and more valuable the big business money.

When we destroy our beautiful state for the benefit of others, what will our children be left with? Sprawl already takes its toll. The next generations deserve some consideration, more than a quick buck does...

I visit NH often and already see too many such towers obstructing the beautiful views I come to see. Power companies make plenty of profits. It's time they made some "sense".

Power lines are an ugly, antiquated and less reliable way to get power from point a to point b. Make them bury the lines for the good of our great state, the picturesque views and for our children. Don't let these corporate powerhouses have their way

PLEASE listen to us...$$$ does not always have to prevail. Allow nature and our natural state to do so, for that is a major part of this state...balance.

I cherish the northern NH wilderness and think there is a workable compromise to finding energy relief without sacrificing what is left of the natural habitat and beauty of the area.

When I go to the White Mountains I am enthralled by their beauty and renewed spiritually. We have to preserve some of the few places where nature is still untouched by human greed and commerce.

My husband and I have spent many tourist dollars in NH. Our primary reason for choosing NH was for the beauty and pristine areas. Above ground utilities in that most beautiful of regions will spoil that sense of wonder forever!

My family still lives in Lebanon NH I hike/bike and camp up there with the beauty of being able to look out at landscape/blue sky. NOT Power TOWERS. Stop them.

Please find an alternate plan for transport of power of sensitive and high cliff area trailways. . Once you are up on the ridges the last object you want to be reminded of is man-made, commercial build-up in other wise pristine recreational areas.

The Northern Pass goes through areas where I go to get away from civilization. I do not want to see power lines. I want hills, trees, rocks, not high tiers carrying power lines.

This is my backyard, where I escape to the woods to find solitude. Wires and towers will destroy that solitude for me, and everyone else who escapes to these mountains too.
